  • US Route 29 (US 29) winds north from Lynchburg to Amherst and Charlottesville. South, it takes you to Greensboro, North Carolina.
  • US Route 460 (US 460) runs just south of the city, heading west from Lynchburg to Roanoke in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, or east to Petersburg on the outskirts of Richmond.

 

How To Get From Lynchburg To Charlottesville

It takes about one hour and 30 minutes to drive the 75 miles from Lynchburg to Charlottesville:

  1. Leave the car rental parking lot and join the Lynchburg Expressway, heading south.
  2. Take Exit 8B to merge on to US 501, then follow signs for US 29.
  3. Use the Monacan Bridge to cross the James River, then continue north on US 29, also known as Monacan Trail Road, for about an hour.
  4. Exit right on to I-64, then use Exit 121B to join VA 20 North

 

How To Get From Lynchburg To The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a half-hour drive from Lynchburg in your rental car. Just get on US 501 (Lee Jackson Highway) and drive north until you reach Big Island, then take the slip road left to join the famous scenic highway at Milepost 63.7.
