  • Interstate 10 (I-10) is the main interstate through Tempe, running northwest to Phoenix and southeast to Tucson before swinging east into New Mexico. Renting a car in Tempe means you’ll get to avoid buses, taxis and the like.
  • East Baseline Road runs through downtown Tempe from east to west and is lined with banks, restaurants, and hotels. Follow it west for South Mountain Park and Preserve.
  • South Forest Avenue and East Lemon Street are where you’ll find many of the main Arizona State University buildings, including the Tempe Campus.

 

How to Get From Tempe to Phoenix

It takes less than 20 minutes to drive the 12 miles from Tempe to Phoenix with your rental car.

  1. Leave the Hertz car rental lot on South Priest Drive.
  2. Get on I-10 West from West Elliot Road.
  3. Continue on I-10 West to Phoenix.
  4. Take exit 195B from I-17 North.
  5. Take South 7th Street to East Washington Street.

 

How to Get From Tempe to Tucson

It should take around 90 minutes to drive the 100 miles from Tempe to Tucson in your car rental, depending on traffic. Get on I-10 East from South Priest Drive and North 56th Street. Follow I-10 East to North Freeway in Tucson. Take exit 255 from I-10 East. Then take West Miracle Mile to West Jacinto Street. Arrive in Tucson.
