Common Questions During Your Rental

Accident or Damage

What do I do if I was in an accident?

First, please check that everyone involved is okay.

If you or another party are injured or in danger, please call emergency services (911) in your area before contacting us. Hertz does request you contact the police to report the accident even without injuries. You will need the name of the Police Officer, the Investigating Department (city, county, or state police), Phone number, and a Police Report number.

Once you are safe and have contacted the police, please contact Hertz 24-Hour Emergency Roadside Assistance at 1-800-654-5060. We can create a preliminary accident report and review your options for an exchange vehicle as needed. If the vehicle is being towed, please tell the tow truck driver and police officer the vehicle belongs to Hertz. DO NOT give consent for any repairs on a Hertz vehicle.

How do I file a report/claim after an accident?

You can file your claim here.
