Our Program History

In February 1989, Hertz announced to its employees a firm commitment to a Minority/Woman-Owned/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (M/W/DBE) Purchasing Program. We as a company value diversity amongst our employees, within our consumer base, and throughout our purchasing partnerships. Our commitment is more than the recognition of a legal requirement or social responsibility. We realize that using M/W/DBEs is good for business.

In January 1994, a formal procedure mandating Hertz's M/W/DBE participation policy, requirements, outreach plan, and certification procedures, was implemented company-wide. As the Program has grown, the procedure has expanded to reflect those changes.

Since the program's inception, Hertz has made significant advances towards increasing our M/W/DBE participation efforts.

  • Hertz received the 1998 "Buyer of the Year" award from the Chicago Minority Business Development Council.
  • Hertz received the "Outstanding Corporate Support Award" in 1999 from the National Minority Business Council.
  • Hertz was the recipient of the Minnesota Minority Supplier Development Council's 1999 "Advocate of the Year" award. Hertz was also the recipient of this Council's "Buyer of the Year" award in both 2001 and 2002 and was recognized with a "Corporate Recognition Award" in 2002.
  • Hertz was honored with the first ever "President's Award" from the Women Presidents' Educational Organization in 2002.

To date, we are proud to state that we have purchased over $278 million in business from over 5,000 M/W/DBE firms and $6.8 billion in vehicle purchases from M/W/DBE car dealerships.
