Rental Qualifications and Requirements

Authorized Hertz vehicles rented in Namibia may only be driven in the following countries: Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland. No South Africa, Namibia nor Botswana registered Hertz vehicles are any longer allowed into Zimbabwe at all.

 

Please note that the Toyota Quantum 10 seater is not allowed to be driven across the borders of the country it is registered and licensed in. 

 

An over border fee of NAD 2,000.00 (including tax) will apply for entering any permitted neighbouring country.

 

Standard terms and conditions will determine what amounts will be charged in respect of loss and/or damage to the vehicle that may occur within South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and/or Mozambique.

 

written permission (Overborder Letter of Authority) from Hertz is required before driving a Hertz vehicle outside of Namibia. This permission needs to be requested at least 48 hours before picking up the vehicle via https://www.hertz.co.za/cross-borders/ in order to give Hertz time to process the document and you will receive a copy, as well as a copy of the registration documents of the vehicle.

 

The renter is liable for any over border charges levied by the police, customs and / or traffic department of the countries that are entered / exited or during the time spent in said countries, including all and any taxes, fines and penalties. This is not covered by or included in any charges levied by Hertz. You will still be liable for charges incurred by impounding of the rented vehicle by border officials, and parts stripped from the rented vehicle while the vehicle is left unattended.

 

Permission to travel in the approved countries is subject to the road type being suitable for the vehicle rented. You will be held liable for any and all damage or loss and / or recovery of said vehicle, should the vehicle be deemed to have been used on an unsuitable road, particularly if a certain of vehicle is required for the terrain. The waivers do not cover damage caused while the vehicle is being driven on an untarred road or a road that is not suitable for the vehicle type.

 

Should you have ended up in an area where a bigger and / or high clearance vehicle is a requirement and such vehicle is dispatched to you as a replacement vehicle, you will be liable for all costs during the period that the replacement vehicle was dispatched, used and returned.

 

All repair costs and costs of returning the vehicle to Hertz Namibia will be charged to the your account, if such repairs were necessitated through the fault, negligence or recklessness of the renter, and / or as a direct or indirect result of a breach of the terms and conditions of the rental agreement, or when the vehicle has been repaired without prior written consent from Hertz. Any repairs must be approved by the management of Hertz Namibia.

 

Should you experience any problem with the Hertz vehicle while driving abroad, please contact only Hertz Namibia.

Should these restrictions be ignored all insurance (Third Party Liability, CDW, TP, PAI), if accepted, shall be deemed, null and void. The driver will be held fully responsible in case of accidents and will bear all consequences, including the cost of repatriation of the damaged vehicle.
