Rental Qualifications and Requirements

Vehicles may be driven to/from Guatemala City/Peten. All cars and 4x4 vehicles are allowed to travel between the two cities if road conditions and weather permits.

Vehicles rented from Guatemala City can be driven to Copan, Honduras and El Salvador.  A permit is required and must be obtained at the Hertz counter to cross the border.  The permit is approximately USD 35.00.

Vehicles rented from Peten can be drivento the Mayan ruins of Tikal. No permits needed.

Cars and 4x4s are only allowed to travel to these locations. Any other travel outside Guatemala or the respective cities is not permitted.

Vehicles may not be driven into Mexico or Belize.

Should these restrictions be ignored all insurance, if accepted, shall be deemed null and void. The driver will be held fully responsible in case of accidents and will bear all consequences, including the cost of repatriation of the damaged vehicle.
