Mercedes AMG GTR Coupe

Oh my goodness! Is indeed the usual greeting for when this spectacular Mercedes is first viewed or heard. Mercedes own press department actually state that there has never been so much motorsport derived technology placed into a road going car, and this is exactly what the AMG GT-R is all about.

The AMG GT-R has not been designed as a stripped out track car and keeps all the usual high-end refinement and passenger comforts expected from Mercedes range toppers. The redesigned front nose now pays tribute to the gorgeous 1950's Gullwing and the smooth flowing styling creates a well-proportioned and very good looking car.

The ‘R's front and rear wings have been widened to incorporate an increased track and wider wheels, weight has been reduced through the use of carbon fibre, fibreglass and lightweight alloys, and power has been increased through major engine upgrades providing 74 more horses and now producing a staggering 557bhp.

The ‘R' also gets new automatic aerodynamic aids, including some underneath the car, and sits lower with driver adjustable suspension. All this together provides for stunning acceleration, straight line speed, stability and dynamic cornering ability. This has been underlined when a GTR was gunned around the Nuburgring at an astonishing 7 minutes 10 seconds setting a new record for rear-wheel drive cars.

As for the sound track – Wow! The exhaust note is incredible, the mighty V8 thunders, roars, bellows, burps and splutters like erupting volcanoes.
