It may be an ultra-modern car but there are definite echoes of the past in the Ferrari F430 Spider. Two cars in particular that can be seen reflected in the Pininfarina design and these are the Enzo and the 156F in which the marque won the 1961 Formula One championship.
It’s powered by a mighty 4.3-liter rear-mounted engine that can propel the car from 0-60mph in a little over four seconds and hit a top speed of over 190mph. The clear cover over the engine compartment means that this powerhouse is always on display.
There are a number of drive settings that can be changed without ever taking your hands off the wheel using the ‘manettino’ button and these adjust everything from the car’s traction control to the settings of the F1 seven-speed automatic gearbox.
Many convertible cars find it hard to match the handling of their hard-top versions but rent a Ferrari F430 Spider and you’ll find that this isn’t the case here. That’s because it has two steel roll bars and an all aluminium chassis and body to reduce flex and increase the rigidity of the car, especially when cornering at high speed.
