David Bowie’s former apartment
If you love David Bowie, or just want to follow in the footsteps of an iconic celebrity, you can do that here. Bowie lived on Lafayette Street in apartment number 285 with his wife Iman. He moved into the building’s penthouse in 1999 after buying two adjoining apartments in the building for $4 million. He was said to have spent a lot of time in the building in his later years. While you can’t go into the building, you can see the exterior and get a picture.
Kat’s Delicatessen
A five-minute drive from Lafayette Street will bring to one of New York’s most famous delicatessens: Kat’s. Here you can take a seat and enjoy a meal like they did in When Harry Met Sally. And if you want to get the full experience, order New York’s signature sandwich: pastrami on rye.
Blue Man Group
Lafayette Street runs parallel to Broadway, meaning you can find some great shows in the area. One fantastic must-see is the Blue Man Group (Astor Place Theatre, 434 Lafayette St). The unique show, which combines art, drums and a lot of paint, has been entertaining audiences for decades.
