Things to do on 34th Street
34th Street
The street itself is an attraction – and is home to the Empire State Building as well as Macy’s and many other great shops. Don’t forget the original filming of Miracle on 34th Street (1947) also took place here, while there are a host of films and TV shows that have featured the fantastic Empire State Building as a backdrop (Elf, Sleepless in Seattle, Gossip Girl). So, if you’re wanting to tick off television and movie locations while in the city, start right here.
Empire State Building
Sure, you can see it from the outside – but you’ll also want to head in (and up) one of the world’s most famous buildings while you’re in this part of town, too. The Empire State Building may no longer by the world’s tallest building, but this 1,250-foot structure is still a key part of a city known for its incredible skyline. You can take a trip up the building and admire the amazing views from the 86th floor and 102nd floor observatories.
Macy’s
Even if you’re not planning on shopping, Macy’s is a great attraction. It’s one of the world’s largest department stores spanning 2.5 million-square-feet and 10.5 stories. To put it into perspective, that’s like 44 football fields, filled with fashion.
Visit during the holiday season to enjoy some of the store’s famous holiday decorations, especially at Christmas.
Madison Square Garden
In between 31st Street and 33rd Street, Madison Square Garden is one the world’s most famous arenas, playing host to concerts, pro sports, and many other events.
Time your trip to New York right to see some of the world’s most famous bands and singers performing here. The likes of Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift have all graced the stage at The Garden.
