Phoenix
The state’s capital city is situated at the heart of the Valley of the Sun and, as the name suggests, it enjoys year-round beautiful weather.
Desert scenery surrounds the city and there’s a number of scenic drives that begin here including the Apache Trail.
In Phoenix and the surrounding area you’ll find more than 200 golf courses and a number of museums, including the intriguing and comprehensive Musical Instruments Museum.
Tucson
Tucson is a great destination for foodies – and was the first city to receive the designation of World City of Gastronomy by UNESCO. Influenced by its neighbor, Mexican food is particularly popular in this lively destination.
Visiting Arizona’s second-largest city also gives you the chance to explore Saguaro National Park and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The latter includes an aquarium, zoo, history museum and art gallery, is one of the most visited attractions in the state.
Scottsdale
Known as the Jewel of the Sonoran Desert and the Beverly Hills of the Southwest, Scottsdale is a luxurious city situated just east of the capital.
It is a health and wellness destination and boasts more spas than any other city in the US.
It’s also home to one of the largest and most visited malls in America, where you’ll find Jimmy Choo and Prada alongside Zara and H&M.
Flagstaff
Situated in northern Arizona, Flagstaff is known as the gateway to the Grand Canyon, as it’s situated just one and a half hours from the South Rim.
This picturesque city is beautifully backed by the San Francisco Peaks and you can hike up one of 30 trails, including to the highest point in the whole of Arizona, for stunning views. The mountain range is also home to the Arizona Snowball ski resort.
Sedona
A short distance from Flagstaff, you’ll find Sedona. This city is surrounded by more than 1 million acres of open space, which includes the Red Rocks and 400 miles of trails to follow either on foot or by bike.
The Devil’s Bridge Trail is a mile-long hike to a natural sandstone arch. You can also go horseback riding, rafting and fishing here. Sedona is also considered a sacred place with plenty of spiritual experiences awaiting you.
Yuma
Yuma is known as ‘the sunniest place on Earth’ benefiting from more than 4,000 hours of sunshine a year. You’ll find it alongside the Colorado River, close to the Mexican border.
Much of the cuisine is influenced by its neighboring country. Here you can visit the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park, a prison that dates back to the 1800s or head to Gateway Park, where you’ll see the Ocean to Ocean Bridge.
Mesa
Arizona’s third largest city, Mesa can be found alongside Tonto National Forest, which is one of the largest in the country and an ideal spot for hiking.
There are also plenty of opportunities forwatersports, such as kayaking, water skiing and paddle boarding on the three lakes and two rivers. You may also like to board a hot air balloon and look down on theSonoran Desert from the sky.
