Airport, Balearic Islands
Menorca Airport, or Mahón Airport as it's sometimes called, stands in the south-east corner of the island. The modern airfield is just three miles south-west of Menorca's capital, Mahón, but stands among flat agricultural land just over a mile from the Mediterranean coast. The airport is the main gateway for tourists to reach the small Spanish Balearic Island. If you pick up a hire car at Menorca/Mahón Airport, you'll find it's a short drive on the Me-12 road to join the Me-1 highway that links to the rest of the island or to reach the Harbourside City itself.
Mahón stands among palm trees and whitewashed villas around a renowned natural deep-water harbour on Menorca's east coast. If you have hired a car from the airport you'll be able to tour the city easily. You'll find a charmingly restored old centre, with architecture reflecting its colonial history at the hands of the English, French and Spanish. As the main settlement on this holiday island expect to find lively streets, during the day and night. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and tapas bars too. The main attraction? It's probably just admiring the view of that enormous natural harbour.
