Explore Château de Fontainebleau
A who’s who of French high society, including Marie Antoinette, have passed through the grand halls of this mesmerizing palace. Built in the 12th century as a royal hunting lodge, the medieval Château de Fontainebleau was added to over the years by various kings, creating a resplendent mix of architectural styles for you to admire. Napoleon himself described it as “the true home of kings”.
Set a day aside on your vacation to soak up Château de Fontainebleau’s splendor. Among the 1,500 rooms you can spot mythological frescoes in Salle de Bal, a 100ft-long ballroom, marvel at the gilded ceiling of the Imperial Theater of Napoleon III and wander along Galerie François, an elaborately decorated passageway boasting a wealth of stucco figures and gold leaf detailing.
