Plan your day the night before.

It sounds too simple to be true, but this tip really works. Many people begin their work days without having created a plan of action, and therefore easily lose steam or focus throughout the day. By taking just 15 minutes or less the night before to plan the day ahead, you can create momentum for the tasks you need to achieve. You may find that not only will you sleep better after making a plan for the next day, but you can wake up excited to attack your defined goals.

Utilize your calendar.

Did you know that a calendar can actually increase your productivity? That’s right, these scheduling tools are useful for more than just phone meetings and birthdays. When you’re scanning your plan for the day, try physically scheduling time blocks in your calendar for your most important tasks. A structure is so beneficial when tackling multiple assignments. There is a well-known saying that goes, “What gets scheduled gets done,” and you’ll most likely find that simply adding an event to your calendar that blocks out hours according to your prioritized tasks will help ensure that you not only focus on those tasks – you complete them.

Create a morning routine that works for you.

Make an assertive choice to limit distractions.

It’s no secret that we live in an age of constant distractions. From email notifications, news updates, social media, text messages, and even Slack channels, there is no shortage of ways to be tempted away from your work. We are all guilty of clicking on something unrelated to our task “for just a quick second” and then looking up to discover we’ve lost 15 minutes of our work time on something unimportant. You have to make a choice to give up distractions for set periods of time in order to maximize your productivity. So, turn those notifications off, delete those apps, and commit to focusing on what needs to be focused on. Once your tasks are complete, reward yourself with some delicious scrolling – after work hours.

Try the “batching” technique.

Batching is a productivity hack that is defined as the activity of grouping similar tasks together and then taking care of all of them during the same focused time period. This could look like three hours of planning and building presentations, four hours of writing (though it may be various articles), and one hour strictly for email. The batching method will help you break down large assignments into manageable steps in order to get everything done – and also ensure that you remain focused for longer periods of time. Deliberately batching your tasks will give you time back because you’ll no longer be losing time switching back and forth between unrelated tasks.

We all have the same number of hours in the day but working more efficiently is absolutely possible for all of us.
