Hertz Rideshare Program Requirements

To rent a Hertz vehicle for Uber or Lyft, you must first meet a few requirements.

  • You must be an approved Uber or Lyft driver that is currently in good standing with your current rideshare company and Hertz.
  • You must be at least 25 years old.
  • Have a valid credit or debit** card and driver's license
  • Be able to provide a deposit that equals the estimated rental charges plus a $200 holding fee to cover any additional charges that may be incurred.

The Hertz Rental Process for Uber

The Hertz rental process for Uber is easy. Once you’re approved to drive with Uber, you can easily choose to pick-up a car at participating Hertz locations near you.

Step 1 – Sign Up
Create an account with Uber and indicate that you need a car, or visit the “Vehicles” section of the Partner Dashboard. Under Hertz, choose “Rent a Vehicle.”

Step 2 – Reserve a Car
You’ll then have the option to select a vehicle offer and set up a pickup appointment at a Hertz location near you. A seven-day reservation is required.

Step 3 – Pick Up Your Car
Head to your Hertz pickup location at the date and time you selected. You can pay for your rental using a credit or debit card. Prepaid or stored value cards are not accepted.

Step 4 – Extend Your Rental
You can extend your rental up to three times, every seven days. Every 28 days, the vehicle needs to be returned to the Hertz rental branch for routine maintenance and to open a new 28-day contract.

Step 5 – Return Your Rental
Return your vehicle to the Hertz branch location where you picked it up. Don’t forget your original paperwork!

The Hertz Rental Process for Lyft

Ready to rent with Hertz so you can drive for Lyft? First, make sure Express Drive is available in your city, then follow these steps so you can drive your way.

Step 1 – Sign Up
New to Lyft? Apply to drive with Express Drive. Already a Lyft driver? Visit the “Vehicles” section of your Driver Dashboard to see if Express Drive is available in your city.

Step 2 – Reserve a Car
Once you're approved, choose where and when to pick up your rental. You'll need to pay a refundable security deposit or a non-refundable starter fee depending on your market.

Step 3 – Pick Up Your Car
Grab the keys and start earning on the road. For easy payment, Lyft deducts rental costs from your earnings so it's all in one place. No surprise charges.

Step 4 – Extend Your Rental
You can extend your rental up to three times, every seven days. Every 28 days, the vehicle needs to be returned to the Hertz rental branch for routine maintenance and to open a new 28-day contract.

Step 5 – Return Your Rental
Return the car anytime you want after seven days. No lease or long-term contracts.

The credit scoring process performed through the services of Equifax are very similar to the type of credit checks that are done when a person applies for credit. This credit check is done at the rental location when you arrive.
